Structure
The accompanying Figure
[I.C.1.b] illustrates the leadership team of the STC-ERSP, and the Table
[I.C.1.c] summarizes key responsibilities of team members. This team
receives oversight from the Administrative Board, made up of Provosts of the
four participating universities. UNC-CH is the lead institution. The
Administrative Board has financial reporting oversight, sets spending guidelines
and approves academic objectives. It receives an annual report from the STC-ERSP
Directors and approves the Center’s annual report to NSF. The Office of
Intellectual Property Assessment, Acquisition and Technology Transfer of the
University of North Carolina provides guidance on patent matters.
The STC-ERSP leadership team is responsible for managing all Center activities.
Coordination among team members is facilitated by weekly leadership team
meetings. Meetings are held at Chapel Hill with other sites connected by
teleconference. Agendas are published in advance with input from team members.
Detailed minutes are issued promptly and published on an internal website. An
electronic calendar on the website facilitates scheduling and keeps members
current on upcoming events. Prof. Denis Gray, a nationally known
management consultant, is a member of our management team and serves as an
internal consultant on our management practices. In addition, team members are
expected to participate in management training courses to build management
skills needed to fulfill responsibilities.
