Develop fundamental understanding of

·  kinetic and transport mechanisms, thermodynamics, phase equilibria, and factors affecting polymeric structure of
materials and function in CO2-related systems (
Macromolecular Synthesis & Engineering)
·
phenomena involved in dissolution of materials & formation of thin films, coatings & structures at C02 interfaces
(Dissolution & Deposition)
·  small molecule reactions & synthesis, separations & materials formation in supercritical & near-supercritical
C02 - based systems (Small Molecule Systems)

in order to identify and demonstrate feasibility of sustainable processes, materials and devices as candidates for further development..

Explore new frontiers in relevant basic science and technology in order to identify new areas for application of green chemistry (Seed Projects)

Develop and apply fundamental understanding of social processes that foster collaboration and innovation in the CERSP and similar organizations in order to empower individuals to reach career goals while furthering the organization’s scientific, technological and educational goal (Social Science Research)

Science & Technology Mission: To identify and enable a generation of economical and energy-efficient, clean and safe processes, especially for improved products, by developing and exploiting a robust body of fundamental knowledge in CO2-related science and technology.

Science & Technology Goals:

To create a strong body of integrated basic knowledge targeted at supporting selected application of CO2-related science and technology, focused on understanding the following:
Project Team 1:
Kinetic and transport mechanisms and prediction of partition coefficients to enable engineering of CO
2-based polymerization processes

Project Team 2:
Chemical and mechanistic reaction pathways and environments in compressible fluids and mixtures with water

Project Team 3:
Factors affecting polymeric materials, their structure and function, and processing utilizing CO2, including VLE and its prediction

Project Team 4:
